Bacteriostatic Water

Pharmaceutical-grade sterile water with 0.9% benzyl alcohol, used to safely reconstitute lyophilised peptides.

Bacteriostatic Water is a sterile water solution containing 0.9% benzyl alcohol as a bacteriostatic preservative. It is the standard diluent for reconstituting lyophilised (freeze-dried) peptides, and its preservative content allows a single vial to be safely punctured and withdrawn from multiple times. Each vial contains 10ml of pharmaceutical-grade solution.

Benefits

  • Multi-use capability — The benzyl alcohol preservative allows repeated withdrawals from the same vial without contamination.
  • Extended peptide stability — Maintains reconstituted peptide integrity for longer than plain sterile water.
  • Pharmaceutical-grade sterility — Manufactured under strict quality controls suited to research applications.
  • Universal compatibility — Suitable for reconstituting any lyophilised peptide in this catalogue.

How To Use It

The 0.9% benzyl alcohol content acts as a bacteriostatic agent, inhibiting bacterial growth each time the vial septum is punctured. This is what distinguishes it from plain sterile water, which is sterile only until first use and is not suitable for a multi-dose vial.

To reconstitute a lyophilised peptide, the desired volume is drawn into a sterile syringe and injected slowly against the inside wall of the peptide vial, allowing the powder to dissolve without vigorous shaking. Once reconstituted, peptides mixed with bacteriostatic water should be stored refrigerated and used within the timeframe specified for that specific peptide.
